Polkowski , Francis Esq. . Obituary


Francis "Frank" J. Polkowski, Esq., 81, of Dickson City, died Thursday evening April 2, 2015 at home.

Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late Bart and Frances Szewczyk Polkowski and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. He was a graduate of Dickson City High School, the University of Scranton, with a BS degree in accounting, and he received a LLB Law Degree from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. were he was awarded the Scranton Fund Scholarship for Law School. He was admitted to the bar at the District of Columbia and U.S. Court of Appeals and later application was made for admittance to Pennsylvania Bar on reciprocity. He was employed by the United States General Accounting Office, Washington, D.C. as Senior Supervisory Evaluator for 31 years. Some of his responsibilities included Hearing Examiner on Grievances, Office of General Counsel, Office of Special Investigations, Dept. of Energy planning of audits and investigations, Federal Manager’s Financial Integrity Act Review, Environmental Protection Agency and the House Committee on Government Operations. He also served with the U. S. Army.

Surviving are a brother, Edward Polkowski, sisters, Dorothy A. Boyko and husband, Edward and Frances R. Towers and husband, Jack; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral with military honors will be Wednesday April 8, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.
