Alfred J. Lefkowski, 89, of Dickson City and Moosic Lake, died Wednesday evening February 11, 2015 at the Hospice Unit at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife the former Helen Hricko. They had been married 68 years.

Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Bridget Kobashko Lefkowski and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. He was a 1943 graduate of Dickson City High School and he received a BS degree in Business from the University of Scranton. He was employed by Prudential Insurance Co. Newark, NJ and later by Scranton Grinder Co., Scranton. He served with the US Navy during World War II aboard the submarine USS Bumper. He was a member of American Legion Post 665, Dickson City and the Dunmore YMCA.

Surviving are two daughters, Eileen Homcy, MD, Weston, MA and Nancy Lefkowski, Denver, CO; a son, Fred Lefkowski, Dickson City; a grandson, Joseph Homcy, Weston, MA; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Edward, Benjamin, Stanley, Chester, Carl and John Lefkowski; two sisters, Helen Walz and Justine Hyduk.

The funeral with military honors will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.
