Kuplinski , Gertrude . Obituary

Gertrude Mary Kuplinski, 91, of Scranton died Sunday February 1, 2015 at Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orrie E. (Bud) Harvey, her second husband, Chester Kuplinski, and her brother Joseph J. David Sr.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius David and Josephine Deptula David Kirk. She was a long-time member of Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Together with her husband Bud Harvey, she had owned and operated Harvey’s Markets in Clarks Summit and Scranton.

Gert is remembered for her beautiful needlework which she shared generously with family and friends. If she wasn’t crocheting an afghan for a new baby, she was knitting sweaters for anyone who would ask. She was an avid bowler amassing many championships and titles spanning four decades with team members becoming life-long friends. She dearly loved her backyard rose garden with its over 300 bushes at any one time.

Surviving is a sister-in-law, Jannie David, Roseville, CA; two nephews Andrew David, Sacramento, CA and Joseph David Jr., Cromwell CT; a niece, Karen Jensen, Roseville CA; a cousin, Dr. Judith Drazba, University Heights, OH, and a step-daughter, Ann Marie Williams, Avoca PA.

Her family is sincerely grateful to Gert’s neighbors, especially Joseph Butash and Jean Stanczeski for helping her to stay in the home she loved so much until a month ago.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Scranton. Entombment, Glenwood Mausoleum, South Abington Twp.
