Shander , Ernest MD . Obituary

Ernest G. Shander, MD, 94, of Scottsdale, AZ and formerly of Peckville died Tuesday November 25, 2014 in Scottsdale. He was preceded in death by his wife the former, Irene Bielinski who died October 10, 1979.

Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Stanley and Victoria Shander. He was a 1937 graduate of Blakely High School and he attended Mortuary School from 1937 to 1939. He then received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Thomas College in 1943 and went on to Jefferson Medical College, graduating in 1948. He also served with the US Army Medical Corp. from 1942 to 1944.

He practiced family medicine for three years after Medical school and then completed his residency in Anesthesiology in Wilmington, DE in 1954. He practiced at multiple hospitals in the Scranton area including Mercy Hospital. He then became chief of Anesthesiology at Moses Taylor Hospital and served there from 1962 to 1986. He also ran a school for CRNA’s while director and chief of Anesthesiology at Moses Taylor Hospital. He retired in 1986 and he moved to Del Ray Beach, followed by Boca Raton, FL and the Scottsdale, AZ from 2009 to present with his son Ernest Jr.

He was a loving, caring man devoted to his family and his faith. He had a genuine love for medicine. He was a friend to many. His presence will be missed but his love will linger in the hearts of many.

Surviving is a daughter, Kathleen M. Guarnieri, MD, Scottsdale, AZ, a son, Ernest Shander Jr., Scottsdale, AZ. In addition to his children, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Frank Ksiazek Jr. and Marilyn Ksiazek.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Madelyn Ksiazek, Charlotte Yushinsky and Agnes Shander and their respective spouses.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at noon. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Michael’s Cemetery, Blakely.
